If you were following us on Twitter, you would know that we recently finished building the prototype of Maxuino, our serial Arduino clone. Here is a what it looks like -
Maxuino is a low cost Arduino compatible board, which uses serial communication for communication with a computer and external devices and for programming. There is already an official serial Arduino and Maxuino is completely compatible with it and offers many advantages over it.
First of all, Maxuino uses a MAX232 for Serial RS-232 to TTL conversion. This offers better compatibility with almost all computers and external devices that communicate using the RS-232 protocol (GPS, GSM, Bluetooth, RFID modules, etc).
Secondly, its board size is a lot smaller than the official Serial Arduino, which means you can put it is tight places easily.
And then offcourse, it is completely open-source(circuit diagrams and board layout will be uploaded on our site soon), is compatible with all Arduino compatible shields, and comes with an excellent aftersales support from us.
Maxuino by default will come with an Atmega8 or an optional Atmega168 or an Atmega328 with the Arduino bootloader.
We plan to sell both assembled and unassembled Maxuinos. A fully assembled Maxuino with an ATmega8 pre-burnt the Arduino bootloader will cost around Rs. 300. The unassembled kits will cost a little lesser. We will be adding a step by step tutorial for building a Maxuino from the kit soon.
We will have Maxuino listed for sale on our store soon.
